The CSTEE does not accept, at their present stage, the methods developed for testing plasticiser migration from baby’s toys made of PVC because the large differences in results. Both for standard PVC discs and for the discs from test samples, the data reflects a poor reproducibility among the laboratories. The method in its present state may not be able to discriminate among commercial products giving rise "in- vivo" to a migration below/ above the recommended limit value . The use of a standardised reference material is recommended. The use of a different machine as source of mechanical force and different saliva stimulant composition are also recommended to see whether that produces fewer variations. Phthalates should be identified unequivocally and the variability of the test method made as low as possible.
